‘Aint it funny the things that stick in your mind when you read books? I remember when I was pregnant with my first child and contemplating how I was going to cope with the “boredom” of maternity leave – as any self-respecting too-serious, control-freak career-girl who hasn’t got a clue what kind of life changing event is about to hit them would, you’ll just have to forgive me my ignorance - and picked up a book on the subject of how ‘intelligent’ women could use this time most productively. I cannot remember the title of this book nor the author, but I do remember one tip which has stayed with me ever since and it went something along the lines of “remember that life is rather like the bristles on your dishwashing-up brush; put too much pressure on them and they will bend and be less effective in scouring clean your dishes. Better to be light-in-touch and allow the bristles to do their job and be more effective at scouring if your pressure on them is less”.

We were recently given the fantastic honour of being the key-note speaker at Suffolk’s Conscious Business Association’s latest gathering. This is a growing group of dynamic and feisty local business leaders who believe that business should be a force for positive change and greater good in the world.
